Faby Diallo

Meet Faby

The founder and lead behavior therapist at Learn Me, Faby, is motivated by her own son who was diagnosed with autism at two years old.

Faby is a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) and a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) by the Virginia Board of Medicine. Her years of experience in the scientific field and in working with kids with ADHD, speech delay, and autism as well as adults with special needs, augmented by her own firsthand knowledge of being a parent to a child with special needs led to the creation of the innovative Learn Me approach. Faby has incorporated all that she has learned and focused that data to open this new learning center that is unique, creative, and different from any other solution that is currently available. It is data-driven and backed by science. She has built the space for therapy she wished she had for her own son to promote independence.

Being a parent to an autistic son, Faby has the same worries and fears as any other parent would have about what will happen to their children when they are no longer around to care for their kids. She recognized a vast need for a diverse approach to teach life skills in order to promote independence to people with special needs.

Her solution was to create a brand-new, state-of-the-art, hands-on, enrichment learning center where we employ modeling as the teaching style, so the child will learn side by side with the clinician. Her multidisciplinary team include STEM field experts like engineers, clinicians, educators, who all join forces to design fun and engaging plans for your family. Our approach is rooted in science and driven by daily insights from interacting with your child.

OUR TREATMENT
APPROACH

Learn Me is a knowledge-based, independent ABA consulting practice. With over 100 years of combined experience, our multidisciplinary team of clinicians, educators and engineers join forces to design fun and engaging plans for your family. Our approach is rooted in science and driven by daily insights from interacting with your child.

We believe that parent involvement plays a crucial role in the intervention. We understand the daily challenges that your family faces and we want to give the best support to continue the work. We offer practical solutions that build around your child’s strengths and promote the development of life skills.

Our Space

Our secret sauce is how we combine everything we’ve been elaborating on above and that lies in the layout and capabilities of our novel, high-tech, active learning center which mixes clinical with real-life practical. We revolutionized an open concept, multipurpose space that’s adaptive to each patient’s needs as they learn and grow. Our main focus is on each child therefore we transform the room with them in mind to center the environment around their special fit. We don’t believe in stationary dedicated desks instead we aim to create a space special just for them that’s engaging and fun. Our intention is for each child to be comfortable and happy in our educational space. We accomplish this by sectioning our space into different environments.

There is a home setting with a cozy sitting room as well as a kitchen to work on food skills including a microwave, cooktop, and blender to make smoothies. We have another section that’s dedicated to movement and art. We explore art and music through a partnership with a music therapist. We have a multitude of instruments, piano, guitar, drum, etc. provided with the intent to help with expressive language. We found that some of the children who have speech delays are motivated to build on language skills by singing and playing music. We engage via games and activities like dance and exercise.

Our 3rd area is our most innovative and exciting one yet. We had our engineers create a custom simulator section with an immense and immersive screen to practice a variety of other life skills like crossing the street with traffic lights, learning to drive in traffic on the simulator and checking in with a card at a simulated airport to practice travel skills.

We use our surroundings to augment the child’s functional potential for living. We advance their careers with educational assessments that increase the potential to discover new skills areas like data entry. We use vocational assessments for example to work on future talents. For example, if a parent notices their child likes setting the table for dinner, then maybe we work on those aptitudes they already like in hopes they’ll pursue a restaurant career. We let your child’s preferences guide us towards their education. Your child has the potential to be the next prodigious artist, scientist, or humanitarian. At Learn Me, we believe in an inclusive world where children can surpass labels.

Why Choose Us

INTELLIGENT BEHAVIOR THERAPY

Learn Me emphasizes teaching life skills to young people with special needs. Most schools wait until children reach 14 years of age to begin transition planning, but they are missing out on crucial, formative years which takes practice time away from those children, making it that much harder to catch up before adulthood. We believe kids need to be involved with making life decisions at an early age in order to develop, practice, and master the expertise needed to gain independence.

We believe that parent involvement plays a crucial role in the intervention. We understand the daily challenges that your family faces and we want to give the best support to continue the work. By collaborating we help the caregiver promote independence allowing the patient to do the skills themselves without needing the parents. We take an active approach of modeling an activity or behavior in order to teach it. We offer practical solutions that build around your child’s strengths and promote the development of life skills.

Life skills are taught based on the independent living goals each patient wishes to achieve. Examples of functional daily living skills range from dressing themselves, feeding themselves, eating, cooking, operating a microwave, meal planning, utilizing traffic lights to cross the street, banking, grocery shopping, doing laundry, folding clothes, dusting, budgeting money, to living in an apartment. We also target sensory issues such as loud noises, bright lights, and different textures, and work on building tolerances through daily exposure so when these situations arise, they won’t be an issue in regular life.

We love incorporating technology, like iPads, as much as we can since technology is the way of the future. For instance, we use Alexa to motivate the child to increase or decrease the behavior. We aim to decrease behavioral problems via modeling appropriate replacement behavior and concentrating on increasing those behaviors.
